Osprey Nest №1 and Charlo

Osprey Nest Webcam: Live from Charlo, Montana. A pair of ospreys, nesting near the treetop home of a Great Horned Owl family in Charlo, Montana, are building a new nest and starting a new family! The pair landed in Charlo on April 12, 2016, and immediately began nest preparations, gathering twigs from a freshly plowed field nearby and collecting soil. After a brief courtship, they began mating. This bond will lead to over 160 mating attempts in the coming weeks, eventually resulting in a clutch of two to four eggs. The eggs will hatch after a 35-42 day incubation period, with both parents feeding themselves and their chicks exclusively on fish. During incubation and chick-rearing, the eggs and chicks are almost constantly under parental supervision to protect them from predators. About fifty days after hatching, the chicks begin exercising their wings for their first test flights. Finally, in early September, the fledglings embark on their solo winter journey to South America. This Osprey Camera is brought to you in partnership with the Owl Research Institute.
