The stream provides an excellent overview of Kirkelandet Island and the sheltered harbor in the strait. Visitors can explore the Mellemvaerftet Old Shipbuilding Museum, Norway’s only operational shipyard museum, established in 1856, located in the harbor area. Kristiansund spans four beautiful islands—Kirkelandet, Gomalandet, Innlandet, and Nordlandet. Kirkelandet Island is divided into a western half (Kirkelandet) and an eastern half (Gomalandet). Situated on the edge of the Norwegian Sea, the city is renowned for its traditional “Bacalao” (dried and salted cod) dish and its Opera Festival.
